IV X I - 60th Birthday, Christmas Dinner, Sausages and a Party
This series of images captures a double-exposed film that had been initially shot by the previous owner, followed by the images that I took at a party.
Two days before my friend’s party, I decided to buy a film camera from a local charity shop. As I was going from shop to shop, trying to find the best camera for my budget, I stumbled across one that already had a film roll inside. A win-win situation you could say, as I didn’t have to go out and buy a new film roll. Little did I know; the film inside the camera had already been used!
The person who had forgotten to take the film out of the camera had captured a 60th birthday party and a Christmas dinner celebration. The abstract sausage-like-shapes originate from the images I took of my dinner, just before I left for the party. Sadly, none of the images from my friend’s party survived the double exposure from this film!
To protect the identity of the original owners, I used a variety of editorial techniques including the replacement of distinguishable facial features, with geometric shapes I carefully selected from other sections of the photograph.
These shots didn’t turn out how I originally planned, but I’m still over the moon with the final sequence. It just goes to show you - every cloud has a silver lining!
